The Norwegian innovation and environmental company, Rockpore, plans to begin operations in Iceland in late 2026. To support this initiative, the company has signed a letter of intent with Iceland Eco-Business Park on the Suðurnes peninsula for the lease of approximately 5,000 square meters of space.

This decision brings Rockpore into a growing group of five other companies from four different countries, along with Iceland, that have signed agreements or letters of intent to lease a combined total of 16,000 square meters in IEBP.

Rockpore has developed solutions in collaboration with Norwegian research institutions and companies to better utilize raw materials resulting from other production processes. The company’s mission is to create products that align with international environmental standards, transforming these by-products into valuable resources. Rockpore’s production methods are pollution-free, and its innovative materials serve versatile purposes: as carbon-binding construction components for port building, as healthy infill material for artificial turf, and as a foundation in hydroponics systems. These sustainable building materials play a pivotal role in advancing eco-friendly and sustainable construction practices.

Kjartan Eiríksson, managing director of the Green Industrial Park, and Finn Solvang, managing director of Rockpore, officially signed the agreement.

“We are very pleased that this exceptional innovation company has chosen Iceland Eco-Business Park for its future development. Rockpore now joins the group of five companies that have signed agreements or letters of intent for leasing in IEBP. The location near a robust port and airport greatly influenced Rockpore’s decision on where to set up, in addition to our buildings offering significant flexibility, expansion possibilities, access to clean energy, and opportunities for collaboration in improving energy efficiency.”

Kjartan Eiríksson, CEO of IEBP

“Over the past two years, we at Rockpore have been preparing to establish a factory that will produce valuable products from underutilized materials, including materials left behind from various types of mining. We are proud to have found a partner in Iceland Eco-Business Park. This collaboration gives us the opportunity to take our first steps in expanding our environmentally friendly solutions.

– Finn Solvang, CEO of Rockpore
