One year ago, we met Larry, Guðmundur, Kevin, and Jónbjörn, the Thermal Beets Records (TBR) team, when they came to explore the Iceland EcoBusiness Park. Our first meeting was held at the Iceland Ocean Cluster, in a room where music played from a vinyl turntable, a quiet symbol of what was to come. That first encounter sparked a shared vision, and the connection was immediate.
This Friday, November 7th at 11:00, we’ll make it official. TBR and IEBP will host a press conference at the Iceland Music Center to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. This is the first step toward building Iceland’s first record pressing plant since 1986.
But this isn’t just about bringing records back. TBR will produce 100% fossil-fuel free records made from sugar beets and starches, powered entirely by Iceland’s geothermal energy. It’s a bold move toward circular creativity and sustainable sound.
Þór Sigfusson, chairman of IEBP, will speak at the event alongside the TBR team, artists, and representatives from Music Iceland.
